DESCRIPTION: Light trails from the tops of the letters in UNUM in an offset angle direction of 330 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – a large group of small die gouges in and around the DATE on the obverse.

Reverse is LDS – none noted.

NOTE: This die was found by Bob Piazza of Florida.

DESCRIPTION: Trails from the tops of the letters in STATES, EPU and the tops of the left side columns. Offset angle direction is 300 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouge between the R and T of LIBERTY.

Reverse is MDS – small die gouge on the bottom of bay 1. A small die gouge is seen to the left of column 1.

NOTE: This die was found by Darrell Coleman of Missouri

DESCRIPTION: Light fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under column 3. Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5 through 8, with an offset direction of 200 degrees

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted

Reverse is MDS – die gouges on the left side of the T and below the N in CENT.

DESCRIPTION: Light to moderate step deviation under columns 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Fluting line extension is seen, into the stylobate, under columns 10, 11 and 12. Also second and third corner extension occurs into the stylobate. The G of the designer’s initial has a faint trail. All lines have an offset direction of 160 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouge in the second 9’s loop.

Reverse is MDS – die chip in column 1. Die gouge directly east from the designer’s initials, next to the rim.

DESCRIPTION: Strong, multi fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under columns 10, 11 and 12. Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – die dot between the lower part of the I and B of LIBERTY.

Reverse is MDS – die dot, next to the rim, over the first T in STATES.

DESCRIPTION: Light step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, with emphasis on the left side.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – long die scratch from rim through the N of IN and into the field.

Reverse is LDS – die gouge under right base. Die gouge to the right of the designer’s initials.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, with emphasis on the left side.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none observed.

Reverse is MDS – two die gouges, one under the other in the left side base. Die scratch on the left side of the first S in STATES

DESCRIPTION: Light step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, with emphasis on the left side.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die dot behind Lincoln’s nostril.

Reverse is LDS – elongated die gouge in the top left of bay 6.

DESCRIPTION: Strong column extension into the stylobate is seen under columns 2 and 3. Moderate, mushy column extension is seen going into the stairs under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8, with an offset direction of 190º.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none observed.

Reverse is MDS – die gouge to the left of the U in UNITED. Die gouge to the left of the O of ONE.

1996D-1DER-010WS                                 180°

DESCRIPTION: Strong step deviation under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8. There is an extension from the left edge of the left URN seen into the steps below that design element.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – die crack from Lincoln’s neck, up through the ear and into the hair.

Reverse is MDS – die dot between the 12th column and the last A of AMERICA.
