DESCRIPTION: Moderate fluting line under column 11 and a light fluting line under column 10. Moderate to strong step deviation under columns 4 through 8. The top two pictures were taken at different light angles to give a comparison of the extension into the stylobate.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is LMDS – die scratch through the E of WE. Die scratches on top of the hair line.

Reverse is EDS – die gouge to the bottom left of the column 1.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate fluting line extension, into the stylobate, under column 3. Light step deviation under columns # 5, 6 and 7 with a directional offset of 200 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die chip on the R of LIBERTY

Reverse is LDS – small die gouge next to the left side of the O in ONE. Small die dot is seen under the left Memorial building base.

 

1997D-1DER-003T                                    150°

DESCRIPTION: Isolated, faint to moderate trail lines from the ERI of AMERICA, with an offset direction of 150º.

DIE MAKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die scratches in front of Lincoln’s bust in south east direction.

Reverse is LDS – long die scratch in bay 5. Die dot in the lower part of bay 1.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines from the tops of the letters in EPU, with an offset direction of 020º.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die dot above the IB of LIBERTY.

Reveres is MDS – die dot above the designer’s initials. Die gouge under the diagonal of the N in CENT.

1997D-1DER-005T                                   060°

DESCRIPTION: Moderate trails are seen from the right side of the T of CENT. A faint trail line can be seen from the bottom of the N in CENT. The offset direction is 060 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted.

Reverse is MDS – small die gouge on the left edge of the roof. Small die gouge is seen in bay 2. Two die gouges are seen on either side of the left leg of the N in CENT.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines are seen from the top left corners of the letters in EPU. The offset direction is 300 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – a die gouge is seen above the R of LIBERTY.

Reverse is LDS – a die gouge is seen high above the FG.

1997D-1DER-007T                           060°& 330°


DESCRIPTION: Trails are seen on AMERICA, the right corners of the stylobate and the word CENT. Another set of fainter trails is seen on the left letters of the EPU and the bottom terminus of the first S in STATES. The offset directions are 060 degrees (the stronger set) and 300 degrees (the weaker set).

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – multiple die gouges are seen on the obverse surface. Twostronger ones are seen on the I of INand the O of GOD. Also seen are numerous die gouges around the date.

Reverse is MDS – a die dent is seen next to the rim over the R of AMERICA.A series of die gouges is seen next to the left corner of the Memorial Building.

DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines are seen on the EPU. The offset direction is 330 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen between the two 9 digits of the date.

Reverse is MDS – a small die chip is seen to the bottom left of column 12. A die gouge is seen above the second left shrub on the memorial building base.

DESCRIPTION:  Trail lines are seen from the left top corners of the letters in the motto EPU. The offset direction is 330º.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – two die gouges are seen in the field to the left of Lincoln’s back.

Reverse is MDS – a die dot is seen to the right of the P in PLURIBUS. Another smaller die dot is seen to the right of the E in EPU
