DESCRIPTION: Light trail lines from the reverse motto and also trail lines at the bottom of the first S of STATES and at the top of STATES OF.  The offset direction is 300 degrees.

DIE MARKERS; Stage “B”, Obverse is MDS – A die chip shows at the top of the first 9 of the date.

Reverse is MDS – Die scratches between the roof lines of the Memorial building.

NOTE: This die was found by Bob Piazza of Florida.

DESCRIPTION: Trails lines from the bottom of the reverse motto.   The offset direction is 250 degrees.

DIE MARKERS; Stage “B”, Obverse is MDS – A long NW-SE die scratch from the field to the 1of the date.

Reverse is MDS – Die clash remnants in the 4th and 9th bays of the Memorial building.

DESCRIPTION: Strong trail lines are seen from the EPU, UNITED, STATES, OF the AMERI of AMERICA, the tops of the scrolling on the cornice and the tops of the columns. The offset direction is 330 degrees. This die is very similar to 1998P-1DER-028T and care must be taken not to confuse the two. The die markers for each are different.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LMDS – a small group of die gouges is seen between the R and T of LIBERTY.

Reverse is LMDS – light to moderate die scratching is seen in all bays, with the heaviest being in bays 9, 10 and 11. A small die gouge is seen next to the right side of the N in CENT.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate trail lines are seen on the words STATES, OF and the first letters in AMERICA. Also seen are trail lines from the EPU, the scrolling on the cornice, ONE and CENT. The offset direction is 330 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – small die gouges are seen on the I and over the B and E of LIBERTY.

Reverse is LDS – a small die chip with a die crack is seen on the upper part of column 1.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate trail lines are seen on the STA of STATES, the EPU the scrolling on the cornice, the right top corners of the columns and the CE of CENT. Also noted is the distortion sometimes seen on the statue of Lincoln and the faint trail line from the head of Lincoln’s statue. This die has trail lines with an offset direction of 040 degrees. This die is coupled with an obverse trail die; 1998P-1DEO-008T.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – a die gouge is seen on the under part of the O in GOD.

Reverse is LDS – A die crack is seen from the right corner of the roof tip, through the R of AMERICA and onto the rim. Three die gouges are seen to the left of the T in CENT.

DESCRIPTION: Wide spread trail lines are seen on this dual directional trail die. The first set of trails affects the ES of STATES, the word OF, the MER of AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, the left corners of the roof and the cornice, the upper left corners of the left side columns, the left corners of the stylobate the tops of the letters in ONE and the CE of CENT and has an offset direction of 340. The second set affects the NT of CENT and has an offset direction of 350.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – none noted.

Reverse is MDS – none noted.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – none noted.

Reverse is LDS – two small die gouges are seen in and above the first U of PLURIBUS.  A retained die break is seen on the right URN and 10th column.

DESCRIPTION: Moderate step deviation is seen under columns 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. The offset direction is 170 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted.

Reverse is MDS – a die scrape is seen through the N of ONE. A die dent is seen through the C of CENT.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the tops of the letters in UNITED, STATES and the EPU. Also seen are trail lines from the column base line, the right URN and the bottom of the letters in ONE. Take particular note of the sharp trail line from the bottom of the N in ONE and notice that it is not straight. The offset direction is 290 degrees.

 

DIE MARKERS: Stage “A”, obverse is LDS – A trail of die gouges goes SSE below the I of LIBERTY and a die gouge is found near the lobe of Lincoln’s ear. Reverse is EDS – none noted

Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – none noted

Reverse is MDS – a large die crack is seen from the cornice over column 10 through the I of AMERICA and into the rim.

NOTE: This die was found by Louis Schaeffer. Stage “A” was found by Alex Tuel

DESCRIPTION: Light trail indications can be seen from the top right corners of the UNI of UNITED. The approximate offset direction is 000 degrees. This die is matched with an obverse trail die; 1998P-1DEO-013T

DIE MARKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die scratches can be seen forward of Lincoln’s bow tie. There is a small die gouge on top of the first 9 digit in the date

Reverse is LDS – a die gouge is seen on the bottom of column 1. There are die scrapes from the base of the Lincoln Memorial building, down to the N in CENT

NOTE: This die was found by Louis Schaeffer.

DESCRIPTION: Distortion is seen on the bottom of some of the letters in the EPU. Trail lines are seen on the bottom of the ERICA of AMERICA. Distortion is seen on the bottom of the E and N of CENT. Step distortion is seen under columns 5, 6, 7 and 8. The direction is 170 degrees.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – die dots are seen in and around the date.

Reverse is MDS – short die gouges are seen above and to the left of the designer’s initials.
