Reverse is EMDS – Small gouge above the left corner of the shield.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is EMDS – none noted
Reverse is EMDS – a short die scratch is seen above the F in the word OF. A small die dent is seen just below the E of AMERICA.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen from the MER of AMERICA, the NT of CENT and the designer’s initials below the word CENT. The offset direction is 180°.
DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – a forked die crack is seen in Lincoln’s brow and forehead.
Reverse is MDS – a die scratch is seen through the top of the S in PLURIBUS.

DESCRIPTION: Trail lines are seen on the letters INED of UNITED and the first and E of STATES. The offset direction is 250°.
DIE MARKERS: Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – a large die crack is seen from Lincoln’s brow through his forehead and into his hairline. Unusual die wear, in the form of “orange peel” may indicate that this was a “soft metal” die.
Reverse is LDS – two small die gouges are seen around the R of AMERICA

DESCRIPTION: Trails can be seen from the tops of the letters UNITE, MERICA, the designer’s initials (LB) N of ONE and unusually on the upper incuse elements of EPU across the shield face (representing the strongest yet identified instance of trails off of incuse design elements). The off-set direction of the trail lines are 355 degrees.

DIE MAKERS: Stage “C”, obverse is LMDS – Die crack behind and above the ear in the hair; cluster of small gouges SW of IN; die dot (small gouge) above the second 1 in the date.
Reverse is LMDS – Die gouge to NE of the banner that says ONE CENT; die crack above the P in PLURIBUS.

DESCRIPTION: Trails can be seen from bottom of the designer’s initials (JM), ERI of AMERICA and slightly from the last T in CENT. This die is similar to 003T except the off-set direction is 185 degrees.

DIE MAKERS: Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – Die crack extends from the rim through the U of TUST towards Lincoln’s brow. Reverse is MDS – Small die crack above the E and also U of EPU on the shield.

DIE MARKERS: Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – a die scratch is seen under the E of LIBERTY. Another die scratches is seen from the base of the B to the I of LIBERTY.
Reverse is MDS – a die crack is seen along the upper left edge of the shield.

DESCRIPTION: Light trails can be seen on the EPU, most of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the end of the right ribbon, the middle band of the shield, T in CENT and designer’s initials (JFM) – trails are strongest on ES of STATES. The off-set direction is 25 degrees. NOTE: Scrutinize all trail-dies with cracks and die breaks on the upper left shield to be sure what you have matches what is shown; it is a common area to find cracks and breaks.
